Linda Rowell Stevens

Linda Rowell Stevens was born in Utah .Her family moved to Connecticut and then Virginia where she attended college at Virginia Commonwealth University. After college Linda took a cross-country trip with Beeb, her best friend. Linda moved to Hawai'i in 1972 at the age of 21. In 1978 her son, Nahele Hillery was born. She married her second husband, Larry E. Stevens in 1987. Their home is in the rainforest of Pahoa on the Big Island of Hawai'i.

For many years Linda was an award winning doll artist. Her dolls were shown with the Leo Moss Society and displayed at the William Grant Still museum in Los Angeles. Among her more important dolls were meticulous representations of King David Kalakaua , Princess Kaiulani and Queen Lili’uokalani, all now in private collections. On the Islands, Linda has been a participant in numerous Spring Art Festivals and Hawai'i Craftsmen shows. She won 1st place for one of her early paintings. She was also a long standing member of the Pacific Handcrafters Guild.

Linda has had several one woman shows showcasing her diverse artistic talents of painting, sculpture, soft sculpture, fashion design, wearable art, jewelry, ceramics and glass. In 1998, Linda began to focus on oil painting. Through a fellow member of ‘ The East Hawai'i Doll Collectors Club’, Linda read the book “Painting Techniques of the Masters”. She experimented with the methods used long ago and found that under-paintings and layers of glazes gave the results she desired. Having an interest and respect for King David Kalakaua , Linda read his book,” The Legends and Myths of Hawai'i”. Inspired by her love of the myths and legends, Linda is now recognized for her reverential paintings of Hawai'ian themes.
